Swindon Town goes into this weekend’s FA Cup tie with Aldershot Town on the back of the news that their management team have signed long-term contracts with the club.
Manager Michael Flynn has penned a deal that keeps him at the club until May 2026. Assistant Manager, Wayne Hatswell has also agreed to a deal of the same length.
This brings stability for Swindon Town, and the pair who arrived at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.
The season has started brightly at The County Ground, an unbeaten run at the start has given the Robins a platform to progress. The new contract is well deserved in the eyes of the chairman Clem Morfuni.
Talking to the club’s official website, Morfuni said. “We are delighted to be able to continue our journey with Michael and Wayne as they look to continue leading our team on the pitch.
“Their commitment, hard work and the overall exciting style of play they have been insistent on bringing to the club since their arrival in the summer, makes them a perfect match for Swindon and our supporters.”
This was backed up by the club’s chief executive, Anthony Hall. “We want to take the club to the next level and compete with the top teams. To do that, we have to have the right management team in place and in Michael and Wayne we believe we have this.
“We are positive about the direction both they and we as a football club are going in with those two at the helm of the Men’s team, and we look forward to what the future holds over the next few years.”

Flynn is well respected in the game, and his career has included over 400 appearances as a player, before trying his hand at management. Speaking of his time at Swindon, the manager said. “Since day one, I have simply loved my time at Swindon Town, and I’m delighted to secure my future with the club that the brilliant supporters here deserve. In the short time that we have been here, we have seen the love and passion that the supporters of Swindon have for this football club.
“Today is about securing our future with the club and looking to build on the successful start we’ve made so far. While we will always take learnings from disappointing moments, we are laser-focused to live in the moment and enjoying the challenges that this journey will bring.”

Michael Flynn’s new contract is justified after his good start and gives him confidence to move forward. The club have good support and big ambitions. After an indifferent 14 months with Walsall, the opportunity at Swindon came at the right time. This was after a successful spell at Newport County, in which the bosses at Swindon hope he can replicate. Especially this weekend in the FA Cup, as he guided Newport to the fifth round during his time there, and a similar run would be most welcome this season.
