Journalist Makes Huge Claim About ‘High Profile’ Leeds United Star

Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto looks set to remain at the club until at least summer 2024, despite likely interest in the January transfer window, according to reports.

The 19-year-old has been out of favour in Daniel Farke’s side this season with the German manager prioritising the in-from trio of Daniel James, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter. The young Italian trickster has managed eight appearances this season, providing just one goal and one assist.

Following his excellent Premier League campaign last term, Gnonto earned the interest of Everton, with a reported five-year deal agreed that the player attempted to force through, refusing to play for the Yorkshire side until the deal was done. However, the deal collapsed after Leeds held resolute and refused to sell for less than their asking price.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Dean Jones spoke of Leeds United’s transfer plan for January:

“I think they want to try and keep things as settled as they can going into the second half of the season.

“I think we’ll have to wait until this summer because Leeds need the bulk of this squad to stick together for now,” he continued.

“They’ve got a big task on their hands to get out of the Championship and having an overhaul halfway through the season probably isn’t going to help.”

The transfer insider went into specific detail on Gnonto, claiming:

“The Gnonto one is obviously going to be the most high-profile one to look out for. We all know how close he came to trying to leave the club and wanting to leave the club in the summer window.

“Quite how much Leeds have managed to convince him otherwise, I guess we’ll find out in January.”

Leeds find themselves sat in third in the Championship after 14 matches, nine points behind high-flying Ipswich Town and 14 behind league-leaders Leicester City.

The recently relegated side continued to put pressure on the top two with an emphatic 4-1 win over Huddersfield Town at the weekend with Summerville and James scoring two apiece in the first half to kill off the game in the Yorkshire derby.

Leeds have a wealth of talent in forward positions this season and players such as Jaidon Anthony, Ian Poveda and Joe Gelhardt continue to miss out due to competition for spots in the squad. If the money was right for Gnonto, not many supporters would be too upset with losing Gnonto, particularly following his early season antics and slow start to the Championship campaign.

The question more so lies with whether the interest is there for the youngster in January, and if so, are Leeds in a financially strong enough position to hold out for the right price for their man, as they did in the summer.
