Son Of Former Derby County Striker Closing In On Championship Move

Free agent DJ Sturridge, cousin of two-time Champions League winner Daniel Sturridge, is closing in on a permanent move to Huddersfield Town, according to The Sun.

Sturridge has been training with the Terriers’ B team after leaving Premier League side Aston Villa in the summer. The attacker has even scored three times in two outings while on trial with Huddersfield’s second team.

The 22-year-old spent his youth career with the Villans but left at the end of his contract a few months back and has been training with Huddersfield Town’s B team for the last couple of weeks.

The Sun are claiming that the West Yorkshire club have been left impressed with Sturridge’s ability and will offer him a permanent contract to play for the first team at the John Smith’s Stadium.

DJ’s family are one of footballing heritage. His father, Dean Sturridge, played for a number of clubs in the top two divisions of English football, including Wolverhampton Wanderers, Queens Park Rangers, Leicester City and Derby County.

Darren Moore’s side are struggling to find the net this season and currently hold the fourth-lowest tally for goals in the Championship. Centre-back Michal Helik, who scored the team’s only goal during an embarrassing 4-1 defeat against Leeds in the derby yesterday, is the side’s top goalscorer this season.

Kian Harratt is the highest-scoring centre-forward at the club this term with just two goals to his name so Moore is looking to add some depth and quality to his striker department by tying Sturridge down permanently.

Huddersfield Town need to find goals from somewhere so it’s not surprising that Moore is keen to secure Sturridge’s services as soon as possible.

DJ has had some great goalscoring teachers too, with his father Dean and cousin Daniel both being prolific number ‘9s’ throughout their respective careers. This could be an astute acquisition by the Terriers.
