Bristol City have become the latest club to part company with their manager after announcing the departure of Nigel Pearson.
The Championship side have made the decision following yesterday’s 2-0 defeat against Cardiff City, a result which saw them slip to 15th in the table. It was their second loss of the week after falling to a solitary goal in the home clash with high-flying Ipswich Town on Wednesday and comes ahead of their meeting with basement club Sheffield Wednesday next weekend.
A brief statement through their official channels confirmed the news, with chairman Jon Lansdown saying;
“This was a difficult decision to make as we recognise and appreciate how much Nigel has done for the club over the past two-and-a-half years on and off the pitch.
“Nigel is highly respected by the staff and players and has been very supportive of the Academy structure and our Women’s team.
“We all wanted Nigel to achieve our ambition to be promoted but, with our recent results, feel that now is the time to make a change to give the club the best possible chance of success.”
Pearson joined the club in 2021 and guided the club to a 14th placed finish last season. However, the big-money departure of Alex Scott in the summer handed the club a significant war chest and the expectation was to push for a play-off place this season. The 60-year-old leaves the club five points behind sixth-placed Hull City.

This news will come as somewhat as a surprise considering they are still within reach of the top six. However, their position doesn’t lie and it is clear that this decision has been made with that in mind.
Whilst the Championship is exceptionally tight at the moment, things could open up in the next few weeks and the Robins will be looking at the next two games against Sheffield Wednesday and Queens Park Rangers as ones they should be winning.
