Wrexham midfielder Elliot Lee is looking forward to his side’s upcoming away fixture against last year’s National League rivals Notts County.
The two clubs went head-to-head in a sensational title challenge last season, seeing both clubs surpass the 100 points mark. The Welsh club managed to beat the Magpies to the only automatic promotion spot but were joined in the Football League by County, after their play-off final victory over Chesterfield.
Both clubs are enjoying their starts back in the Football League, with the Nottinghamshire-based club and Wrexham sitting second and third in League Two respectively.
The 28-year-old has had a particularly good start to his campaign, currently his side’s top scorer with nine goals.
Both clubs had quite a remarkable season last term, and Lee stated how it would have been harsh for one of them to miss out on promotion.
Speaking to Leader Live, he said: “It was a unique season how well we both did to get over 100 points”
“Let’s be honest, for two teams to get over 100 points and both not go up automatically was very harsh.”
The midfielder is also expecting a response from County this weekend, after missing out on top spot last season.
“Looking at the table, we deserved top spot in the end, and I’m sure they’re going to be a little bit bitter about that on Saturday.
“It is two great teams going at it again, we are going to be taking a huge following and they are obviously going to have a lot of fans.” stated the Durham-born midfielder.
He added: “Hopefully we bring the points home.”
Wrexham are coming into the game unbeaten in their last seven fixtures in all competitions, but Lee knows it will not be an easy task, with their opponents having a strong start to life in League Two. Their latest result saw a dominant 3-0 victory at home to strugglers Newport County.
Speaking on the upcoming fixture Lee said:
“It is nice to be up the top of the table with them. We know how good they are and how good we are.
“These are the games you want to play in. You want to play in the tough games, you want to play in games in front of 20,000 fans. Just bring it on.”

The two sides had quite the remarkable season last year, and have been tipped as obvious favourites for promotion again considering their financial power for the level. It may seem a strange sentence but you could make the argument that the better footballing side were County last season despite finishing second.
It is likely to be a highly entertaining and emotional game this weekend and is certainly one of the stand-out fixtures in the EFL. Expect Elliot Lee to have an impact on the game, alongside County star man, and the team’s top scorer Macauley Langstaff, who’s hit 11 goals this season.
Prediction: Notts County 2-1 Wrexham
