Championship Trio Interested In Swansea City Attacker

Swansea City are set to enter contract talks with forward Liam Cullen in an effort to ward off interest from a growing host of Championship clubs, according to journalist Darren Witcoop.

The 24-year-old has featured in all 13 of the Swans league fixtures this season, contributing one goal and assist. However, he is out of contract at the end of the season, opening up an opportunity for other clubs in the division to swoop.

Cullen rose to prominence through the club’s academy, briefly spending time on loan with League One outfit Lincoln City last year. Comfortable in a range of positions across the attacking line, his form domestically earned him his first cap for Wales earlier this month, when he started in the 4-0 friendly win over Gibraltar.

According to Witcoop, Swansea are keen to retain his services and have started a dialogue regarding a new deal. League rivals Bristol City, Hull City and Stoke City are amongst his admirers though and they will be watching the situation with interest.

It’s been a poor start to the campaign for Michael Duff’s team, who currently occupy 19th position. They have lost their last two fixtures, although that has come off the back of four successive wins. Cullen has struggled in front of goal this term but did hit eight Championship goals last season as the Welsh outfit finished just three points off the play-off places.

The attacker will be eyeing a first goal since early September this weekend when Swansea travel to in-form Blackburn Rovers.

Cullen is a player capable of holding his own in the Championship and it is no surprise to see interest growing from fellow clubs in the division. However, Swansea will not want to lose a player who has been on their books for 16 years for free and it is equally unsurprising to see them begin contract negotiatons before the year end.

Having earned his first senior international cap this month, he will be keen to keep his place in Rob Page’s squad for the next round of fixtures later this month. He will do his chances no harm if he can mirror the kind of form he hit last season, when he hit five goals in seven games between December and February.
