Millwall picked up an important, and impressive, result on their travels this past weekend. Under the stewardship of caretaker manager Adam Barrett, they secured a point from their trip to Preston North End.
The draw leaves them in a secure mid-table position, as they prepare for the visit of Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday evening. The two sides sit next to each other in the Championship table on 16 points, but The Lions are just ahead by having a slightly better goal difference, even if it is in the negative.
Barrett is keeping an open mind with his selections as he tries to steady the ship after the departure of Gary Rowett during the international break.
Midfield Depth
After gaining a good away point thoughts immediately turned to the home match and highlighting which players could soon be back in contention. With Allan Campbell, on loan from Premier League Luton Town, the manager has cited that George Saville is still in the frame, despite losing his place when The Hatters man arrived.

Talking to the South London Press, he said. “The guys in the middle of the pitch have got a couple of good results. George Saville is an experienced player and he is a valuable and important member of the squad, there are no two ways about it.
“He is great to have around. As long as I’m taking charge, Savs is going to be in and around it. He has got a big part to play.”
Saville still has plenty to offer but has not had any serious game time since towards the end of September but was on the bench at Preston on Saturday.
“You have got to pick a team that you think suits who you are playing and gets the best out of them.
“Savs is fully in my plans, without a doubt. We all know what he can do. There are no issues, no problems, and I expect him to keep working hard in training, his attitude has been excellent. He is really important for the group.”
Writer’s View
For teams like Millwall squad depth is important. George Saville is having to be patient, alongside Billy Mitchell – who has also seen his playing time diminish. The fact is when striving for consistency, and picking up points, you have to go with what is working. At present Millwall are on a three-game unbeaten run, so there is no reason to change things, especially when a caretaker boss is putting himself in the shop window.
