Queens Park Rangers CEO Lee Hoos believes head coach Gareth Ainsworth can turn things around, expecting Rangers to press on after the international break.
QPR endured a horrific start to the season and are currently sitting third from bottom ahead of this weekend’s clash with Huddersfield Town at Loftus Road which will be a massive game for both teams in their fight for safety.
Ainsworth has found himself increasingly under pressure in recent weeks from supporters to turn QPR’s form around but the team have failed to win a game since the start of September which came during a 2-0 away victory against Middlesbrough.
In fact, the former Wycombe Wanderers manager led QPR to their longest winless run at home (11 games) in the club’s 141-year history, a streak that will continue this weekend at home to the Terriers if Ainsworth’s side fail to earn all three points.
Nonetheless, CEO Lee Hoos is not worried about the prospect of relegation just yet and has backed Ainsworth to improve performances and results. Speaking to The Athletic, Hoos said [quotes via Football League World]:
“One of the reasons we hired Gareth was that he can adapt, innovate and try new things.
“He did something different for Blackburn, which didn’t work out. But he’ll go back, address that, and he’s done some different things in training the last couple of weeks. I would expect to see us spring forward.”
According to journalist Alan Nixon on his exclusive Patreon, former manager Michael Beale is interested in a return to QPR should the board decide to part ways with Ainsworth in the dugout.
Writer’s View
There is no need to panic just yet regarding QPR’s situation. However, this weekend’s clash against Huddersfield at home will be huge for Ainsworth and for the team’s prospects of leaping out of the relegation zone.
It will be interesting to see how long Hoos sticks to his word if results go from bad to worse.
