Leeds United summer transfer target Josh Sargent has signed a new long-term, five-year deal with Norwich City, keeping him at Carrow Road until 2028.
Two weeks before the transfer window closed during the summer, Football Insider reported that former Norwich boss Daniel Farke was keen to reunite with the United States international at Elland Road.
Farke brought Sargent to the Canaries in 2021 from Werder Bremen upon earning promotion back to the Premier League but the attacker struggled in his first season in English football, bagging just twice in the top-flight.
Nevertheless, the 23-year-old stepped up his game over the past eighteen months and has scored 17 goals for Norwich City in all competitions since the beginning of the last campaign, including three from four matches this season.
Unfortunately, Sargent picked up a nasty injury away at Huddersfield Town which has kept him out of action for the past few weeks but that hasn’t stopped Norwich from handing the forward a new deal.
Speaking to club media following the signing of his contract extension, Sargent said:
“I’m very happy at signing the new contract and excited to stay here for a bit longer.
“I’ve liked this club ever since coming here, they’re doing really good things. I see myself as being a big part of the team moving forward.
“I really want to get promoted with this club, it’s the biggest thing,” he continued.
“I had a very good start to the season. I just want to get back as soon as possible to keep that momentum going.”

This is great news for Norwich City fans. Sargent had a tremendous start to the 2023/24 campaign prior to injury and will be a big player for the Canaries upon recovering.
Given that Leeds were interested in signing the ex-Werder Bremen man during the summer transfer window, as per reports, it makes sense for the club to tie his future down at Carrow Road.
