Queens Park Rangers will not look to relieve head coach Gareth Ainsworth from his duties despite yet another defeat at the weekend, according to journalist Darren Witcoop.
QPR have now gone six games without a win in the Championship and have found themselves inside the drop zone, two points from safety. The side’s last victory came away from home against Middlesbrough at the beginning of September.
The London club have picked up merely two wins from 11 games this season, both coming away from home against Cardiff City and Boro. However, following a 4-0 hammering suffered at the hands of fellow strugglers Blackburn Rovers, the Hoops have broken a club record.
Ainsworth’s men are now winless in eleven consecutive home matches, the most in QPR’s 141-year history. The last time the Loftus Road faithful witnessed a win was back in March against Watford.
The former Wycombe Wanderers boss has come under increasing pressure from the fanbase but Darren Witcoop has claimed that the QPR board are not looking to take action just yet.
Writing on Twitter/X in response to a follower, Witcoop said:
“GA [Gareth Ainsworth] appears to be safe…for now”.
Witcoop also believes that QPR should take advantage of John Eustace’s dismissal at Birmingham City:
“You’d think Birmingham had learnt their lesson in sacking a popular manager doing well and replacing with a big name in Zola.
“Wayne Rooney might do a good job but he starts on back foot. QPR could do worse than now look at old No 2 John Eustace, who knows the club.”
QPR’s next game takes place in less than two weeks away at Huddersfield Town which will be a must-win fixture for the club in their fight to stay in England’s second tier.
Writer’s View
It’s never good to see a manager dismissed from their job, particularly when having to deal with as many injuries in the squad as Ainsworth has over the past few months.
The 50-year-old should at least be given until the trip to the John Smith’s Stadium to attempt to turn things around.
