Following the expiration of his contract at OGC Nice during the summer, Wales international Aaron Ramsey made an unprecedented return to Cardiff City but is currently on a hefty wage.
Ramsey joined the Bluebirds as an eight-year-old schoolboy and broke through from the academy to make his debut in the first team towards the back end of the 2006/07 season.
After two seasons playing professionally with Cardiff, Ramsey’s talents didn’t go unnoticed and Premier League giants Arsenal came in for his signature and secured his services for a reported fee of £4.8 million.
The midfielder returned to the Welsh side on a one-month loan during the 2010/11 campaign but agreed to sign for the club on a permanent basis 12 years later and has been in great form this term under new manager Erol Bulut.
The Welshman put pen to paper on a two-year deal back in the summer. However, according to Capology, Ramsey is currently on £80,000 per week which is the joint third-highest wage in the Championship right now and is four times more than Cardiff City’s second-highest earner, Joe Ralls.
Only Leicester City duo Jamie Vardy and Harry Winks are reportedly on more money each week while Ricardo Pereira earns the exact same amount as the ex-Juventus star.
Capology have worked Ramsey’s wage out as being £4,160,000 per annum, meaning his entire two-year contract at the Cardiff City Stadium is worth £8.32 million in total.
Putting this into perspective, the same website states that Ramsey earned £4.7 million for spending merely one season with Nice in one of Europe’s top-five leagues which is just £500,000 more than he will earn with his boyhood club in his first twelve months back home.

Ramsey’s price tag is incredibly excessive for a club that have been fighting relegation over the past few seasons. However, it’s not surprising either given the quality that the Welshman possesses.
The former Arsenal star is undoubtedly one of the best players in England’s second tier right now so the Bluebirds are getting their money’s worth.
