‘Tactical Genius’ Linked With Vacant Sheffield Wednesday Job

Former QPR and Rangers boss Michael Beale is interested in getting back into management and is eyeing up the vacant head coach position at Sheffield Wednesday, according to reports.

Beale has been out of work for just seven days following his dismissal at Ibrox last week after Rangers lost three of the first seven games of the season. However, on his exclusive Patreon, journalist Alan Nixon has revealed that the 43-year-old is ready for a return to the dugout.

The Englishman’s sacking coincided with Xisco Munoz being relieved from his duties at Hillsborough. Sheffield Wednesday picked up merely two points in ten games under the Spanish coach and a 1-0 defeat at West Brom on Tuesday was the final nail in the ex-Watford manager’s coffin.

Now, Nixon is claiming that Beale is interested in succeeding Munoz as the Owls attempt to claw back a seven-point gap between themselves and safety, with three-quarters of the season left to go.

Despite losing his job in Scotland, many who have worked under him have lauded his abilities as a coach. In an interview during the summer, Rangers fullback Dujon Sterling even labelled Beale as a ‘tactical genius’ [quotes via Football Scotland]:

“Already on the pitch you can see his tactical brain is genius. He’s just a genius.

“He goes into so much detail. He wants you to do this, he wants you to do that, but the way he explains it makes you think, ‘I have to do this, I have to do that’. You buy into it.”

According to TeamTalk, Stevenage manager Steve Evans is also on Wednesday’s radar to replace Munoz as Boro sit fourth in League One right now. Meanwhile, Yorkshire Live are claiming that the former Reims boss Oscar Garcia is also on chairman Dejphon Chansiri’s list.

Beale would be an excellent appointment by Sheffield Wednesday should the board manage to pull it off. Many will point to his time at Rangers as a failure but forget that he also had QPR fighting for promotion before heading to Scotland.

Right now, Wednesday need someone who can get the most out of the players at their disposal at least until the January transfer window opens, and Beale is the best option out there.
