Forest Green Rovers Form Slumps Amidst New Stadium Talk

Last week, Forest Green Rovers announced plans for a new stadium that would be “the lowest carbon football stadium in the world ever”.

They might not want to take their eye off the ball too much though, as the team slumped to their sixth league defeat in a row.

The loss on Saturday, 2-1 away at Accrington Stanley, leaves FGR rooted to the bottom of League Two, albeit level on points with Sutton United.

New Stadium

The plans for the new 5,000 seater stadium, which will be constructed out of wood, is part of a planned build of an Eco Park. Early plans were scoffed at by locals, but the new revised version is likely to see the green light.

If ratified, it is expected to contribute around £150m to the local economy annually, and also generate £2m per year in business rates for the Stroud District Council.

The only planning that needs to happen immediately though is how to get out of this terrible form and start climbing up the table. Forest Green Rovers are currently the joint lowest scorers in the league, with just 11 goals so far, and with the worst goal difference at -13.

Boss David Horseman spoke to Gloucestershire Live after the latest defeat:

“I do not think they did anything that we have practised. I would never have normally questioned their honesty. However, today, I do not think they did anything that we have practised, particularly in the first half there was nothing.

“I thought we lacked intensity, but now the pressure is on and people have got to stand up and we are falling short as a group. I think there needs to be a little bit more honesty because that is the first time today that I have felt let down because I do not think it resembled anything like what I want.

“If we do not come together quickly then there is not much time before decisions have to be made. It is poor, people pay their good money to come here and we are soft,” he continued.

“We are soft in both boxes; you can do all the brilliant bits between the boxes and there are enough good bits between the boxes. If you do not want to score and get hurt and take the ball like they did for their two goals you are never going to win a game at this level.

“What we have to do now, we have to stick together as a group because if we start to get divided then we are in big trouble.”

Rovers have a game in midweek in the EFL Trophy, but the next league fixture is one that takes on huge importance when they host Colchester United.

Too early to say six-pointer? Well, it may become someone else’s problem if Horseman can’t galvanise his side enough in the next few days, as shortly after they face the only unbeaten side left in the division, Mansfield Town.
