Former Player Names Difference-Maker For Leeds United This Season

Former Leeds United star Dominic Matteo believes that summer signing Jaidon Anthony has been the key difference-maker at Elland Road from last season’s relegation side.

Late on transfer deadline day, the Yorkshire club revealed that Anthony had been brought in on loan until the end of the 2023/24 campaign, with Luis Sinisterra going the opposite way, also on a temporary basis.

Anthony had been a vital component in the Cherries’ return to the Premier League under Scott Parker during the 2021/22 season and was also key last term as Gary O’Neil kept the side in the top flight at the first time of asking.

Sinisterra was keen to leave the Peacocks following last season’s relegation so Anthony was brought in as a direct replacement to the Colombian and managed to open his account for Leeds in a comfortable 3-0 win over Watford over a week ago.

Former Leeds captain Dom Matteo has labelled Anthony as the difference-maker this season and believes his goal versus the Hornets was a ‘Premier League goal’.

Speaking to LUTV’s Matchday Show, Matteo said [quotes via Leeds United News]:

“Another player that come on, made a difference to the team. He’s got composure. Last year, we didn’t really have composure. I know it isn’t the Premier League, but that was a Premier League goal for me.

“His goal, he just guides it into the corner. A lovely finish. That is a player that knows what he is doing in that position. Like I say, we have options all over the football pitch. We looked a threat in that game.”

Sinisterra had a very good debut season with Leeds despite the club being sentenced to the Championship. However, not many supporters will miss the tricky Colombian with Jaidon Anthony in the side.

Anthony could prove to be a very astute signing and, if he continues playing well, Leeds may look to make the swap deal permanent in the near future.
