Pundit Makes Surprise Prediction About Hull City’s Promotion Chances

EFL pundit Carlton Palmer believes that high-flying Hull City won’t finish in the automatic promotion places this season but could still make a push for the Premier League.

The Tigers have had a tremendous start to the Championship this term under head coach Liam Rosenior. Hull are currently sitting fourth in England’s second tier, having lost just one game so far this season.

Rosenior’s side lost on the opening day of the campaign away at Carrow Road through a late Adam Idah goal but have remained unbeaten in the league ever since and are now preparing to face newly-promoted Plymouth Argyle at the MKM Stadium tomorrow.

The Humberside club have already accumulated 25 percent of last season’s points tally (58) and look like one of the underdogs in this campaign’s promotion race.

Pundit and Sheffield Wednesday legend Carlton Palmer believes that Rosenior can take his players all the way back to the promised land of the Premier League but achieving a top-two finish might be a stretch too far.

Speaking to Football League World, Palmer said [quotes via FLW]:

“Liam Rosenior and Hull City have had a fabulous start to the season.

“He brought in 18 players in the summer in a complete overhaul of the squad, signing Jaden Philogene from Aston Villa and Aaron Connolly from Brighton, to name two of the star signings. And saw 16 players depart the club.

“I think it’s a very strong Championship this season, so I can’t see them sustaining an automatic promotion push for the one and two, but certainly see them entering the race for a play-off place.”

Leicester City look like the team to beat this season, although Hull City are actually the only side who have done so, hence, the automatic promotion places aren’t impossible to reach for the Tigers.

However, even a finish inside the playoff spots would be an incredible season for Hull, far outweighing the club’s expectations heading into the current campaign.
