Premier League strugglers Everton are keeping tabs on Blackburn Rovers’ highly-rated starlet Adam Wharton ahead of the January transfer window, according to the latest reports.
Wharton enjoyed his breakout season last term and found a starting place in the middle of the park under Jon Dahl Tomasson despite turning just 19 in February. The Athletic reported that his excellent performances had attracted interest from Everton and newly-promoted top-flight side Burnley.
Meanwhile, TeamTalk revealed during the summer transfer window that Manchester United, Newcastle United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also closely watching the Rovers academy graduate.
The teenager has been sensational at Ewood Park so far in his infant career and scouting blog Football Talent Scout even compared Wharton to a young Jack Wilshere, formerly of Arsenal and Bournemouth:
“His aggressive nature and strong desire to win the ball and his lovely technical ability when breaking the lines with either his passing or strong ball-carrying solo runs are all very similar to a young Jack Wilshere when he was breaking through and rising at Arsenal.”
It may come as no surprise that Wharton’s form and talent have garnered interest from clubs in the Premier League. Now, journalist Alan Nixon is reporting that Everton sent scout Steve Davis to keep an eye on the youngster over the past few weeks.
Wharton’s price tag is said to be set at £10 million which could be a bargain for any top-tier side looking to bolster their midfield department during the winter window.

Blackburn Rovers will have an incredibly difficult time keeping Wharton at the club should Tomasson’s side fail to achieve promotion this season.
The teenager is wanted by more than half of the Premier League right now if reports are to be believed and so it won’t be long before a club slaps a £10 million bid on the table.
