Leeds United Suffer Injury Blow

Leeds United star Wilfried Gnonto has been ruled out their Championship clash with Watford tomorrow with an ankle injury, as reported by The Athletic.

The Championship club have been dealt a blow, with Gnonto being ruled out of action following an injury he sustained in Wednesday night’s draw with Hull City. Leeds boss Daniel Farke has confirmed that the Italian has suffered ligament damage to his ankle, with a lateral ankle ligament being the cause of concern for the player. The club are waiting for a full assessment of the injury before they move forward.

The 19-year-old featured for 21 minutes in the 0-0 draw with the Tigers. A clash with Hull defender Scott Twine left him feeling discomfort, and the bench was eventually signalled to make the change and bring Gnonto off. This was the forward’s sixth appearance for Leeds this season, and his goal against Ipswich is his only impact on the scoresheet this season.

The Italian was a hot topic in the transfer window as he pushed for an exit from the club following relegation from the Premier League. Despite his refusal to play for the club, the Yorkshire club rejected two bids from top-flight side Everton and insisted the 19-year-old was not for sale. Following the incident, which included Gnonto handing in a written transfer request, Farke said the youngster had apologised, and he was prepared to give him a second chance at the club. For now though, the club face an anxious wait as they await news of the extent of the injury and how long they will be without the talented Italian.

The loss of Gnonto is a big one for Leeds after he made amends with the club and returned to the first team. The Italian’s return to action was triumphant as he scored in a 4-3 victory over Ipswich Town, showing the club just how good he is and what he can bring to the side. This was after not having featured for some time for the club, and he had certainly begun to make amends with the goal.
