Darren Moore Details Revealed At Huddersfield Town Manager Unveiling

Darren Moore’s contract at Huddersfield Town has been revealed, with the ex Sheffield Wednesday boss signing a three year contract with his new employers, as stated in Yorkshire Live.

Moore was announced as Neil Warnock’s replacement a matter of days after Huddersfield drew 2-2 versus Stoke in Warnock’s final outing as Terriers manager, rumours circulating around Moore joining Huddersfield finally confirmed.

His first taste of action as a Championship boss for the Terriers will be versus Coventry City, but he will have to wait a few days with that match-up taking place on Monday night away at the CBS Arena.

It should prove to be an invaluable few days, as Moore starts to stamp his authority onto proceedings in West Yorkshire.

Deserved Step-Up For Moore

The 49-year-old arguably warrants a crack at the Championship as manager again, especially with the sour end to his regime at Sheffield Wednesday which saw him achieve promotion via the playoffs but ultimately concluded in him walking from Hillsborough.

Still, he makes the step-up to the second tier now with Huddersfield Town in a division he has managed in before.

He lasted 48 games at West Brom as manager during the 2018-19 campaign, the former Baggies playing legend turned boss winning 23 of his 48 matches in charge before being axed which proved to be unpopular with the Hawthorns faithful.

Known to be a great man-manager – with his unwavering faith in the players he had at his disposal whilst with Wednesday leading to the Owls winning promotion – the Huddersfield Town hierarchy will hope he can push the Terriers on this season to new heights.

What’s Been Said?

Speaking to the media after Darren Moore was unveiled as Huddersfield’s new boss at the John Smith’s Stadium, Terriers chief executive Jake Edwards confirmed Moore’s contract length at the club and commented on the short-term arrangements Warnock agreed to.

He said: “He has signed a multi-year deal, three years plus. After the heroics of last season, Neil agreed to a short-term deal to set a foundation for the longer-term appointment.

He’s done that expertly and allowed us to transition into the new ownership and new staff, and for us to set our goals to move forward. We’ve been putting pieces in place and identifying what we needed on and off the field.

We wanted to do this from a position of strength and the right person was available, so the timing was right.”

Darren Moore also spoke at the unveiling, expressing his delight at taking on the new position as manager of the West Yorkshire club.

He said: “It’s a great club and I’ve always been competing against them but I’ve always had a great feeling for Huddersfield Town.

After meeting with everyone I had a great feeling, it really energised me, it was a perfect fit and really energised me. It was too good an opportunity to turn down.”

He also spoke of putting his heavily publicised exit from Sheffield Wednesday to one side during this press conference, concentrating solely on the Terriers now.

He said: “For me that episode is closed. I had a wonderful time there, we achieved fantastic things, but that’s closed now. This is a great club I’m at here now and it whets my appetite that I’m manager at this club. I’m very proud to be a cog in this wonderful machine at Huddersfield Town Football Club.

The players and staff alike have all been in touch to wish me well and I look forward to seeing them in a few weeks’ time.”

Writer’s View

Huddersfield Town will be delighted with how seamless everything has gone to get Darren Moore into the building, a swift turnaround from Warnock’s exit to Moore’s arrival onto the scene.

The Terriers will hope Darren Moore can take the club to the next level after Warnock steered Huddersfield away from the drop zone last season and had continued to deliver results this campaign.

Moore has a tough set of fixtures to deal with right after arriving to Huddersfield, with Coventry and Ipswich up next.

All eyes will be on the 7th of October however, as Darren Moore travels back to Hillsborough to face Sheffield Wednesday with his brand new side.
