Queens Park Rangers To Turn To Familiar Face To Solve Squad Issue

Queens Park Rangers are still considering re-signing striker Chris Martin as Gareth Ainsworth looks to bolster his attacking options after a slow start to the season, according to West London Sport.

The 34-year-old was released by the R’s at the end of last season after only joining the club in February following his departure from fellow Championship side Bristol City. He featured heavily in QPR’s season run-in, scoring four goals, including a dramatic winner against league winners Burnley in April just two minutes after entering the field as a substitute.

His release at the end of the campaign came as a surprise considering his experience in England’s second tier, but QPR kept the door open for an immediate return and discussions over another deal have taken place over the past couple of months. It is claimed that the Ainsworth is still keen to bring the veteran back to Loftus Road.

QPR have scored five goals in their five league games thus far, although secured their second win of the campaign with a 2-0 victory at struggling Middlesbrough last weekend. However, the London-based club sit 17th in the table and will host a rejuvenated Sunderland following the international break.

A decision could be made on the free agent before the next fixture, although the former Derby County striker has attracted interest from a host of League One clubs, including Blackpool. He is said to taking his time and assessing his options before deciding on his future.

Since making his debut in 2007 for Norwich City, Martin has racked up 456 appearances in the Championship for a range of clubs, scoring 114 goals.

It is no surprise to see a host of League One clubs watching the situation closely, especially because Martin is a striker still capable of doing a job in the Championship.

QPR need options at the top of the pitch and although he isn’t someone who would start regularly, the former Scotland international would be a valuable option off the bench and is always good for a goal. This is a deal that Gareth Ainsworth would be silly to neglect.
