Birmingham City Left Sweating After Manager Update Emerges

Birmingham City have been left sweating by the news that Scottish giants Rangers are considering manager John Eustace as a potential replacement for Michael Beale should they decide to cut ties during the international break, according to the Daily Mail.

Rangers have endured a miserable start to the new season, exiting the Champions League at the hands of PSV Eindhoven in the play-off round, whilst losing two of their opening four fixtures in the Scottish Premiership.

After a shock defeat on the opening day against Kilmarnock, the Glasgow-based side were already plaing catch up and Sunday’s narrow defeat at the hands of bitter rivals Celtic has left them in fourth place, four points behind the current champions.

This has led to rumours that a managerial change could be on the cards during the upcoming international break as they look to salvage their season. Second placed Motherwell await upon domestic football’s resumption later this month, shortly followed by the start of their Europa League campaign, where they will face Real Betis in the first of their Group Stage campaign.

According to the report, a shortlist of names is already been drawn up and this is thought to include Birmingham City boss John Eustace.

The Blues have struggled over the past few years, spending much of the past seven seasons flirting with relegation from the Championship. Eustace’s arrival last summer steadied the ship somewhat and they have started the new campaign excellently, picking up 11 points from their opening five games and remaining unbeaten.

The former Watford midfielder is considered one of the best young managers in English football, something which has no doubt prompted Rangers’ attention. It could be a busy couple of weeks at Ibrox and it will be interesting to see how this progresses.

These reports will be no coincidence – particularly with the international break looming – and this is likely some sort of leak to gauge fan reaction to the rumours. John Eustace looks to be a manager with the world at his feet, but Rangers could be the wrong step to take at this stage of his career.

The pressure at the Glasgow club is huge and there will be an expectation to surpass Celtic, something that has only been achieved by Steven Gerrard in recent times. The project at Birmingham is an exciting one and with NFL legend Tom Brady now investing in the club, it’s one worth sticking out.

  1. Why join a club in a two horse Pub League? Jockball is like League One or League Two. Prime examples are Cosgrove and Adam Rooney – prolific in the SPL, useless in the Championship. Also, Andrew Shinnie was in the SPL team of the year but couldn’t cut it in England.
