Leeds United attacker Willy Gnonto is close to being confirmed as an Everton player, according to Italian media outlet Calciomercato.
The 19-year-old’s move to Goodison Park has been heavily rumoured for weeks and it is believed that the Italian international went on strike last month in order to force through the move. However, he was eventually reintegrated back into the squad and scored upon his return in the 4-3 win over Ipswich Town last weekend.
News began to gather pace overnight that Everton were to launch one final attempt to test Leeds’ resolve before the end of the transfer window later tonight. The Merseysiders have made several bids throughout the past few weeks, and it is believed that £25 million will be enough to land their man. Sean Dyche has prioritised a new attacker in the final stages of the window, with his side yet to score a league goal this season.
According to Calciomercato, the deal is now in its final stages and the teenager’s agent is currently in London to conclude the deal.
Gnonto arrived at Leeds last summer from FC Zurich, scoring just four goals in 28 appearances across all competitions. Despite that, he is still in the early stages of his career and Everton have clearly seen enough to convince them that he is the man to bolster their attack.
Time is running out, but this is one deal that looks likely to go through before the 11:00pm deadline tonight.

Willy Gnonto’s exit from Elland Road has been one of the worst kept secrets of the summer. Leeds have gallantly tried to keep the player at the club, but they were always up against it and did make provisions by signing Joel Piroe from Swansea City.
The jury is out as to whether the 19-year-old can cut it in the Premier League, but Everton are desperate for reinforcements. It will be interesting to see if he can hit the ground running and whether he will be a part of Sean Dyche’s squad when they take on newly-promoted Sheffield United tomorrow lunchtime.
