Salford City Complete Deal For Championship Defender

Salford City is set to sign West Bromwich Albion defender Ethan Ingram on loan, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The 20-year-old has been a consistent performer for Albion’s youth teams, while also representing his country with caps for England’s U17s, U18s and U20s.

With the transfer deadline fast approaching, EFL clubs have until 11 p.m. to conduct the rest of their business.

Who Is Ethan Ingram?

With almost all of Ingram’s playing experience coming at the youth level, the defender has been a part of Albion’s academy since the age of 16. Featuring 82 times for the U18s and U21s, the Englishmen has earned three appearances for the first team, with them all coming in the EFL Cup.

Predominantly a right-back, Ingram also has the ability to play further forward in a right-midfielder role and as a centre-back.

Is He Ready For The Step Up?

As previously mentioned, Ingram lacks experience at the senior level, with Salford being his first opportunity to play regularly in a first team. Despite this, in his limited showing, Ingram is coming off the back of an impressive performance against Stoke City in the EFL Cup, where the defender got a full 90 minutes for the Baggies.

Promotion Due?

A well-documented takeover where the ‘Class Of 92’ have taken Salford up the football pyramid, since entering the Football League, the Ammies have stalled at League Two. Going onto their fourth straight season in the division, Salford have taken seven points from their opening five games, as they look to go one step further this year and finally gain promotion to League One.

Writer’s View

Ingrams looks like a very promising signing due to his caps for England’s youth teams and impressive performances for West Brom, however, his inexperience does make the signing tricky to gauge. With cover already at right-back in Luke Bolton and Liam Shephard, it does take less pressure off the signing and maybe one that can be a ‘home run’ for Salford.
