AFC Wimbledon Bolster Squad With Midfield Loan Signing

AFC Wimbledon have completed the loan signing of midfielder Charlie Lakin until January from Burton Albion, as confirmed by the club’s official website.

Lakin, 24, is a member of the Burton Albion squad, but spent time at on loan at League Two side Doncaster Rovers last season. He joins the Dons at a crucial time as their midfield area faces difficulty following an influx of injuries to key players such as; club captain Jake Reeves, as well as Armani Little. Both suffered knee injuries in the recent 1-1 draw at home to Forest Green Rovers.

Lakin has yet to settle at a team for any length of time and despite coming up through the ranks at Birmingham City, he couldn’t nail down a first-team place. This led to loans at Stevenage and Ross County.

Talking to the club’s official website the player spoke of his keenness to get going in south London.

“I’m over the moon to be here, I can’t wait to get going. I had a good first session this morning with the boys. I’ve had a very warm welcome from the staff and the lads, I’m excited for what’s ahead. I love to get on the ball and create so the style suits me. There’s a lot of good players here but I’m confident in my abilities to prove myself.”

Manager Johnnie Jackson said.

“He’s played a lot at our level. He comes with a really good pedigree. I really think he’ll fit into our style and the way we want to go about things. He wants to be part of what we’re doing and has seen how we’ve started the season.”

AFC Wimbledon have enjoyed an impressive start to the season so far, occupying fifth place after five games, when many had tipped them to struggle. They also impressed against Chelsea in the EFL Cup, taking the lead early on before ultimately falling to a 2-1 defeat.

Dons fans will be happy with this loan move as it bolsters an area of concern. With key players out, and the risk of any more injuries could show some holes. This move fills one. With the window still open there could still be more news coming out of Plough Lane today.
