MK Dons Boss Wants Transfer Business Done By Friday

Milton Keynes Dons boss Graham Alexander wants the club’s transfer business to be all done before Friday when the window shuts, according to the MK Citizen’s Toby Lock.

The 51-year-old Scotsman has enjoyed his start to life since arriving at StadiumMK in the summer, with the Dons currently sitting top of League Two with 12 points from five games, with Gillingham the only other side who match the recently-relegated side’s start to the season.

What’s Been Said?

Ahead of the transfer deadline, Graham Alexander wants at least two or three more faces added to his squad as they look to return to League One at the first attempt after their relegation back to the fourth tier last season.

Their relegation came as a shock to many, with the Dons having only lost in the League One play-off semi-final to Wycombe Wanderers the season before, with highly-rated coach Liam Manning dismissed as the campaign descended into chaos.  Nevertheless, Alexander is the man tasked with rebuilding the squad and has done a fantastic job so far, in his first managerial post since leaving Scottish Premiership side Motherwell in July 2022.

His side are travelling down to Crewe Friday night ahead of their game against Lee Bell’s side on Saturday, Alexander wants any new additions to be completed today so that they can be with the squad when they travel tomorrow.

He told the MK Citizen;

“I hope for a busy day on Thursday and it be done, I don’t want to go into Friday with our game on Saturday but if that’s the case, that’s the case.

“There’s no significant movement forwards or backwards, but we’re in the fight. We’ve targeted two or three positions where we want to add competition.”

The arrival of Jack Payne on loan from Charlton Athletic was seen as a shrewd acquisition for the Dons, whilst being able to keep hold of former Cheltenham, Bristol City and Peterborough United striker Mo Eisa is also a huge coup, with the 27-year-old having already scored four goals in the first five games of the new campaign.

Writer’s View

It is understandable why Graham Alexander wants all of his transfer business to be completed by the time his side travel to Crewe tomorrow. The last thing he needs is to be travelling and then a club decide to put in a bid for one of his players that are in his thoughts and on the coach travelling down. That of course could still happen, but nevertheless MK Dons fans will be hoping for some more new arrivals – just as Alexander is.
