Derby County Could Benefit From Championship Transfer Activity

Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Will Vaulks could be set for an exit from Hillsborough following interest from Derby County, as reported by The Sheffield Star.

Xisco Munoz is seeking more names through the door at the Owls before the deadline tomorrow as they currently push for the signings of Jeff Hendrick and Isaac Hayden. The arrival of those players could reportedly open the door for Vaulks to make a move to League One side Derby County.

The Rams have shown interest in the midfielder and are keen to make a move, with Jason Knight having left the club this window and Max Bird picking up an injury. Earlier this month, Paul Warne issued an urgent plea for new signings at Pride Park after the club were hit with multiple injuries in one weekend.

The Welshman joined the Owls from Cardiff City last summer but has just one year remaining on his contract with the Championship club. He was ever-present for the club last season, making 54 appearances in all competitions for Darren Moore’s side that won promotion, scoring twice and registering two assists. Since then, he has fallen down the pecking order in the Championship with Wednesday, being left out of the starting line-up in every league game since their opening-day defeat to Southampton.

The Owls are looking to strengthen following a disappointing start to their campaign, which has seen them fall to defeat in each of their opening four league games. They also crashed out of the second round of the EFL Cup on penalties to Mansfield Town. Both rounds of the cup they played in went to a penalty shootout.

Paul Warne has a target of promotion with the Rams, but the beginning of the season has shown that that may be a difficult target to achieve. With their star midfielder leaving this window, giving them some money to spend in the transfer market, replacing him should be a priority for the club. However, the situation at the club does not allow much room for transfer activity. This would mark the second player from a former club of Warne’s joining the Rams, which could show he is playing it safe in the transfer window.
