Peterborough United defender Josh Knight could be on the verge of a late move to the Championship, with Queens Park Rangers set to renew their interest, according to journalist Darren Witcoop.
The 25-year-old was close to a move with QPR earlier in the month, however, the £300,000 deal collapsed. Now, with the transfer deadline fast approaching, the Hoops look to be renewing their interest in Knight, who has the versatility to play multiple spots in the defence and midfield.
Who Is Josh Knight?
Starting his career in Leicester’s academy, Knight made one appearance for the Foxes, coming off the bench in a second-round fixture against Sheffield United in the EFL Cup. Before he departed in 2021, the versatile defender spent multiple years out on loan with back-to-back seasons at Posh.
A regular for the League One club, Knight spent next season with Wycombe Wanderers in the Championship, where he was managed by current QPR boss Gareth Ainsworth. Winning both Fan’s and Player’s Player of the Year, Knight made the permanent switch to Peterborough, where he has spent the last two seasons.
Late Departures?
Following an active transfer window that has seen many ins and outs, Posh’s work still seems unfinished, with numerous departures still rumoured. Alongside Knight gathering Championship interest, last season’s top goalscorer and former captain, Jonson Clarke-Harris, remains on the transfer list with interest from League One clubs looming.
Talented defender Ronnie Edwards is also of interest to several Premier League clubs, with a move expected to allow the 20-year-old to step up the football pyramid.
Writer’s View
It’s not surprising to see QPR come back in for Knight considering his past relationship with Ainsworth, however, with other players also potentially leaving, a deal may be hard to come by.
With the previous figure being around the £300,000 mark before talks collapsed, due to the transfer deadline approaching tomorrow, QPR will likely have to improve their offer if they stand within a chance of reuniting Knight and Ainsworth.
