Blackburn Rovers Working On Late Defender Deal

Blackburn Rovers have switched their attention to France as they look to secure Saint Etienne defender Mickael Nade, according to French journalist Nabil Djellit, via Sport Witness.

The Championship club have been hoping to bring in a couple of additional reinforcements before the end of the transfer window on Friday as they look to build on their decent start to the campaign.

The 1995 Premier League champions have won two and drawn one of their opening four fixtures, but know they face a fight to break into the play-off places this season. Having to contend with the financial clout of the likes of Leeds United, Southampton and Leicester City is no mean feat, but there will be a quiet optimism around Ewood Park that they can slip into the top six.

Manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has taken advantage of his Scandinavian routes so far this summer, bringing in Swedish international Leopald Wahlstedt and Norwegian midfielder Sondre Tronstad. It’s this eye for obscure deals which could benefit the Lancashire club and reports from France claim that Rovers are interested in Saint Etienne defender Mickael Nade.

The 24-year-old has been linked with Nottingham Forest in the past, although it was reported earlier this year that a deal had been struck with Polish outfit Legia Warsaw. However, the move failed to materialise and it is claimed that the Ligue 2 club have been prepared to listen to offers throughout the summer.

It now appears as though Blackburn are keen to explore a deal as they look to bolster their defensive line.

Nade has made just one appearance for the French second tier club this season, coming in the 2-1 defeat against Rodez AF. He has notched up 52 appearances since his debut in 2017, although did spend the 2020/21 campaign on loan at Quevilly-Rouen.

Not much is known about Nade, but he is a player that has presumably been scouted by Blackburn in the past. Tomasson confirmed earlier this week that he would like some new additions to his squad before the end of the week, but this is a player from the leftfield.

Still, his signings this summer have looked decent so far and he has earned a deal of respect for his findings. This seems a risky one on paper, but there is the potential to have unearthed a gem. This is one to keep an eye on over the next 48 hours.
