Bradford City Target Set To Join League One Club

Crystal Palace striker John-Kymani Gordon is on the verge of joining League One club Cambridge United, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The 20-year-old has been named in the match-day squad for all three of Palace’s Premier League fixtures this season, however, Gordon has been an unused substitute and failed to appear off the bench.

Of interest to a host of EFL clubs this summer, Bradford was particularly keen on acquiring the forward, yet with the U’s entering the picture, the ability to offer League One football should push a loan deal in their favour.

Who Is John Mymani Gordon?

Joining Crystal Palace’s youth setup at the age of eight, Gordon has been a regular contributor with 14 goals across 54 appearances. With the majority of his experience coming from youth football, the Englishmen got his first taste of senior football last season when he joined Carlisle United on loan during the January transfer window.

Making 17 appearances, including two starts in the Cumbrians’ League Two playoff games, Gordon played his part in helping Carlisle gain promotion when he forced Bradford goalkeeper Brad Halliday into an own-goal during the second leg of their match.

Cambridge Adding To A Strong Start

After avoiding relegation on the final day last season, Cambridge has started their new campaign with nine points from their opening five games. Currently just outside the playoff places in 9th, their solid start to the season includes impressive 2-0 victories against Bristol Rovers and Oxford United.

Now with the potential addition of Gordon into the side, Cambridge’s patience with manager Mark Bonner looks to be paying off after their hopeful start.

Writer’s View

Following an underwhelming start in the league for Bradford, frustrations will grow further after missing out on Gordon late in the transfer window. Despite returning last year’s League Two top goalscorer Andy Cook, the striker has failed to get off the mark this season, leading to the Bantams’ lack of goals.

As for Gordon, after gaining senior experience last season, a move up a level should be a good fit for him. With Cambridge moving many of their pieces in the attack around this summer, an opportunity should open up for the forward to showcase his ability even further.
