Leicester City are looking to offload striker Patson Daka before the end of the transfer window next week, according to Football Insider.
The 24-year-old’s future has been subject to much speculation since the Foxes relegation from the Premier League, with Everton supposedly amongst the Zambian international’s admirers.
The attacker is yet to feature for Leicester this season, although was an unused substitute on the opening day win over Coventry City as Enzo Maresca’s team got their Championship campaign off to a flier.
It is claimed that Daka is unwilling to play in England’s second tier and now Leicester appear to have relented in their stance over the attacker’s future.
The former RB Salzburg man joined the East Midlands club in 2021 for a fee of around £23 million and Football Insider’s report states that Leicester are keen to recover as much of their original outlay as possible. They are also in a strong position due to the fact that Daka still has three years remaining on his current contract.
French club Monaco have shifted their interest to the player after Arsenal set a staggering £50 million price tag on the head of previous target Folarin Balogun.
Should Daka depart the club as expected, Leicester could be in the market for another striker before the end of the window. They signed Stephy Mavididi from Montpellier and retain the services of veteran Jamie Vardy, although Kelechi Iheanacho is another who looks to be on the verge of an exit, with Crystal Palace interested in the former Manchester City man.
Writer’s View
There is no point in Leicester keeping hold of a player who has no interest in giving the club his all. With just nine Premier League goals across two seasons, Daka can hardly be considered prolific, although we have seen players drop into the Championship and find their feet – namely Aleksandar Mitrovic.
The Foxes will need to recruit a replacement over the course of the next week or so, but time is ticking and they will need to act swiftly. Their start to life in the Championship has been excellent, but this is a department that they will be severely lacking in should both Daka and Iheanacho leave the club.
