Manager Paul Simpson has confirmed that he has met with the potential future investors in the club, according to reporter Jon Colman of the News & Star.
There have been numerous reports over the last week that the Piatak family have been interested in investing in the League One club, and Carlisle boss Paul Simpson has now stated that he has met with them.
The family were pictured in attendance at Carlisle’s 2-0 loss to Exeter on Saturday and both Tom Piatak snr and his son, were donning the Cumbrians new home kit. Although the on-pitch performance was probably not what they wanted, the family seemed in good spirits.
With one of the lowest budgets in the third tier, any sort of investment would certainly be welcomed at Brunton Park. Although the takeover may not give Simpson any increased funding in the summer transfer window, the Blues may receive a potential financial boost come January.
Still winless in the new campaign, Carlisle have taken two points from their first four games. Although it is far from an ideal start, the fan base has got plenty of faith in Simpson following the huge change in the club’s fortunes over the last two years. The League One newboys are expected to be near the bottom of the League One table come the end of the season but the potential takeover could greatly increase the Cumbrians’ chances of survival.
What’s been said?
Speaking to the News & Star following the loss to Exeter, Simpson spoke on the potential new investment.
“I’ve already met them. I’ve spoken to them.
“I had a conversation with them over this week. But literally a really casual conversation.
“They haven’t come and told me they’re going to do this and going to do that. We’ve just had a meet and greet and that literally was it.”
“I just hope something happens that the current group of directors feel is appropriate for the club and, whoever the new people are going to be, they come in and they’re going to take the club forward, that’s all I hope.
“And hopefully that involves me as well.”
Writer’s view
As a Blues fan, I’d certainly welcome some new investment into the club. On Saturday, multiple American flags were spotted in the Warwick Road End as well as the tannoy playing ‘Born in the USA’ by Bruce Springsteen over the at half-time, so it seems as if both fans as well as the club are taking the news well. The Piatak family have been present at multiple games both this season as well as for the play-offs last year so do seem fairly invested in the club.
As with any takeover it does have the potential to go wrong but given their vividness at recent games it does somewhat seem like they could be in for the long-term.
