League One side Oxford United are leading the chase in the race to sign Millwall forward Tyler Burey on loan, according to Pete O’Rourke from Football Insider.
The 22-year-old, who is of Jamaican descent, has been wanted by Liam Manning’s side all summer after Alan Nixon previously reported that Oxford previously tried to secure his services on a permanent deal earlier in the window, with any move for Burey now likely to be a temporary one away from the Championship side.
He went on to make 26 appearances for Millwall in all competitions last season as they narrowly missed out on a place in the Championship playoffs, with Burey’s only goal in the 2022/23 campaign coming in a 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion at The Den in late October.
After making his breakthrough at AFC Wimbledon, the 22-year-old forward eventually made the switch across London to sign for Millwall in 2019 after turning down a new deal to remain with The Wombles, with the two clubs agreeing a compensation fee.
In a spell at The Den which also consisted of the forward bagging three goals in nine appearances during a loan spell at Hartlepool United in the 2021/22 season, Burey would also be named the Lions’ Young Player of the Season that campaign.
In total, the 22-year-old has made 58 appearances for Millwall’s first team since his arrival in 2019, with the forward finding the back of the net on three occasions during that time.

Improvement needed
Following a disappointing season for Oxford United which saw the club finish 19th in League One with the club surviving the dreaded drop by two points, fans of The U’s will be hoping the upcoming campaign will certainly be one of improvement.
Liam Manning’s side have certainly been busy in the transfer market as Oxford United prepare to gear up ahead of the new League One season.
Some of the new arrivals making the move to the Kassam Stadium include defender Jordan Thorniley, who has signed from Blackpool, forward Mark Harris, who signs from Cardiff City, as well as Portuguese playmaker Ruben Rodrigues, who joins following the expiration of his deal at Notts County.
Writer’s View
Tyler Burey is a player who has quick feet and at 22 years old, now has plenty of experience playing in the Championship. Although not the most clinical in front of goal, Burey is a player that is very capable of making things happen which would suit Oxford United if he was to join the club on a loan move.
I think Burey would be an impressive signing for The U’s if they were to get the deal over the line, already adding to the quality the League One side has already brought in to be able to compete at the right end of the table, unlike the previous campaign. Oxford are certainly a side to keep an eye out for in the upcoming campaign.
