Peterborough United are not expected to pursue the services of Colchester United star Junior Tchamadeu with the 19-year-old full-back subject to Championship interest, according to a report from the Peterborough Telegraph.
Posh had been linked with a move for the dynamic U’s number 29, Darren Ferguson’s men poaching the likes of Frankie Kent and Kwame Poku in recent years from the Essex outfit.
However, with the likes of Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers interested in bringing Tchamadeu in, Peterborough United look unlikely to be the 19-year-old’s next destination after Colchester United.
Who Is Junior Tchamadeu?
The highly rated full-back started his youth career with Charlton Athletic before moving to Colchester United in 2020.
That same year – aged just 16 – Tchamadeu would start his first game for the U’s against Grimsby Town in League Two. In the process, he became the youngest ever player to don a Colchester strip on his debut.
Colchester United would win 2-1 on the day, with the teenager going from strength to strength from this moment on.
His first ever goal for the Essex club would prove to be a vital one, scoring a last gasp winner versus Tranmere Rovers during the 2021-22 season to help the U’s in their bid to survive in the fourth tier.
Last campaign, Tchamadeu had become a more regular goalscorer for his League Two employers. He would finish the season with five goals to his name, pushed further forward in the process to an alternating right wing/left wing role.
This would alert the interest of various suitors from higher up the EFL ladder, Tchamadeu making 90 appearances in total for Colchester despite only still being 19 years of age.
It looks likely that he will be leaving Essex behind this summer, Tchamadeu’s electric displays with the U’s garnering hype.
Peterborough United’s Right Back Situation
Peterborough United look set to miss out on another right back option, with Josh Emmanuel also failing to join Posh after significant transfer rumours linked the former Hull man with a switch to Cambridgeshire.
Posh are in desperate need of new recruits in this position, especially with the recent news of experienced right-back Nathan Thompson’s departure to fellow League One side Stevenage.
Darren Ferguson’s side have been active in the transfer window so far – signing the likes of Archie Collins, Romoney Crichlow and Ryan De Havilland – but a new right back in the building continues to evade Posh.
Writer’s View
Posh will be disappointed that their pursuit for Tchamadeu has been reportedly unsuccessful, it’s clear just from watching clips of the Colchester man that he’s an explosive talent ready for a step-up in quality.
Unfortunately for Darren Ferguson and co, money talks and it looks as if the U’s defender will join a Championship side instead.
Peterborough United will set their sights elsewhere, looking for more new recruits ahead of next season kicking off soon.
