Premier League Clubs Battle For Blackburn Rovers Midfielder

Everton boss Sean Dyche wants highly-rated Blackburn Rovers midfielder Adam Wharton as part of his team at Goodison Park next season, as reported by Alan Nixon via his Patreon.

However, the former Burnley boss will have to splash the cash to beat Premier League rivals Newcastle United to the midfielder’s signature, with the Championship side reluctant to accept anything but a straight cash deal for their midfielder. The two clubs have different advantages they can offer the midfielder. As Newcastle have the money to spend, they see the midfield man as a long-term investment and are potentially willing to let the 19-year-old remain at Ewood Park temporarily. Meanwhile, Everton can offer him more first-team opportunities and an immediate opportunity in the Premier League following the departure of Tom Davies.

Blackburn missed out on promotion last season, and the club reportedly needs to balance the books after their owners invested in another failed promotion attempt. The owners also have faced problems transferring funds into the club, given new regulations introduced in India.

With Everton reluctant to spend big on Wharton and Blackburn reportedly valuing the midfielder at around £15 million, the sales made by the club could be a factor in this deal. The Premier League side already sold Ellis Simms to Championship club Coventry City and are currently awaiting offers for midfielder Amadou Onana, who could potentially bring in a sizeable amount.

Wharton burst onto the scene in the Blackburn senior squad last season and made 18 appearances for the club, scoring twice and providing one assist. He has been hailed as one of the best current prospects in the EFL, and it would appear that the Premier League sides think the same, as they could begin a bidding war for the 19-year-old. The midfielder has appearances across the midfield, but majority of his game time has come as either a defensive midfielder or a central role.

Wharton is certainly one of the best prospects in the EFL at this present time; however, Blackburn needs to be careful that they are not pricing themselves out of a sale if reports regarding the club’s finances are correct. The young midfielder will most likely have the final say in where he goes as he weighs up his options for his future. Everton may be his best choice, with their current squad, he could be given a real chance to break out and prove himself in the top flight.
