Ipswich Town Boss Provides Player Update Amongst Exit Links

Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna has confirmed that 26-year-old midfielder Panutche Camará will depart Portman Road on a loan deal this summer, according to Pepe Lacey of The News.

The Guinea-Bissau international has suffered with an injury-hit season at Ipswich, most notably picking up a groin injury which required surgery in December. The injuries he sustained last season restricted him to only four appearances for the Tractor Boys.

The promotion-winning coach also revealed that the club remain in discussions with forward Joe Pigott, who spent last season on loan at Portsmouth.

Who is Panutche Camará?

The midfielder had spells at three clubs during his youth career, starting with Loures before moving to Vitória de Guimarães in 2015. He then moved to England a year later, signing with Barnsley. However, he was released in 2017 by the Tykes and found himself at Dulwich Hamlet, making nine appearances and scoring four goals.

He earned a move to Crawley Town in 2017, where he made his name. Camará went on to play 103 times for the Reds before completing a move to the south of England in 2020. Plymouth Argyle picked up the midfielder, and he developed even further, having a solid two-year spell with the Pilgrims. Ipswich sealed a deal for Panutche in the summer of 2022 worth £500,000. Injuries have hampered him, leaving him struggling to kick on at Portman Road.

What next for Camará?

According to reports, League One side Portsmouth are believed to hold an interest in the midfielder, as well as plenty of other clubs in the division. Despite those links to Pompey, Fratton Park boss John Mousinho soon shut down those links, as he ruled out a move for the persistently rumoured 26-year-old.

Pigott’s situation

Joe Pigott’s place within the Ipswich squad seems to be up in the air, with the 29-year-old forward not featuring for the Tractor Boys so far in their preparations for the Championship since his return from his season-long loan with Portsmouth.

Portsmouth boss John Mousinho has admitted he will not be looking to add any more attacking faces, potentially ruling out any move to reunite Joe Pigott with the club at Fratton Park.

Pigott played 35 games for Pompey last season netting only four goals and grabbing three assists. He will most definitely be looking to regain form and he may have to leave Ipswich to do so.

Writer’s View

In my opinion, Panutche Camará will benefit from a loan move to another club. He will be able to regain his confidence and find his form after a long-term injury and show us he is still the player he was before the injury, holding hopes of regaining a place in this Ipswich side.

Piggot should also leave in my opinion, in a bid to regain his form and hit the goalscoring heights that he hit with AFC Wimbledon.
