Tranmere Rovers Receive International Bid For Star Player

Tranmere Rovers defender Ethan Bristow is of interest to MLS side Minnesota United, after the American club placed a bid for the player, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke

The 21-year-old is coming off the back of a successful season with the Super White Army and is attracting interest from several EFL clubs, with the Loons the first team to make their move.

Who Is Ethan Bristow?

Beginning his career in Reading’s youth setup, Bristow signed his first professional contract at the age of 18 in 2019, signing a two-year deal with the Royals. Limited to just three cup appearances in his first season with Reading, the left-back struggled to get game time in the Championship. Spending time back and forward with the first team and U21s during his two seasons with the club, Bristow would leave to sign with Rovers last summer.

Starting every game in League Two this past season, Bristow was a consistent performer who provided three goal contributions from the left-back position.

A Move Across The Pond?

Despite only ever playing in English leagues and attracting interest from other EFL clubs, the first club to make a move for the defender is a surprising one. A new club, which was only founded eight years ago, Minnesota finished the past season sixth in the Western Conference and is the only team on that side of the bracket to make the playoffs four seasons in a row.

An exciting project led by former Everton player Adrian Heath, an obscure move to the MLS could be on the cards if Minnesota pursues further.

Writer’s View

Bristow is coming off a good first season with Tranmere, and still has one year remaining on his deal with the club. The club is therefore in no position to sell, however, with reports saying multiple teams are interested in the player’s services, Rovers could create a bidding war for the defender if they do wish to move on for the right price.
