Bristol Rovers Transfer Update Emerges Regarding Winger

Bristol Rovers are not one of the teams chasing Wigan Athletic winger Gwion Edwards, according to reports on Bristol Live.
In recent weeks, The Gas has been linked with the likes of out-of-contract Tranmere full-back Josh Dacres-Cogley as manager Joey Barton looks to rebuild his squad this summer, but one man who is not yet being linked with Rovers is the soon-to-be out of contract Welsh winger. Journalist Darren Witcoop had linked the player with a move to The Gas but this is being denied by Bristol Rovers.

Who Is Gwion Edwards?
Edwards is a former Wales Under 21 international who began his career at Swansea City before heading north of the border for the first time to St Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership. After two loan spells in Perthshire, he would join Crawley Town of League One on a temporary basis before signing for the club permanently in July 2014.
His performances at Crawley were enough to interest Peterborough United who signed the winger in the summer of 2016 before a reported £750 000 move to then Championship outfit Ipswich Town. He made 109 appearances and was involved in 22 goals in his time at Portman Road but it wasn’t enough to stop the club dropping into the third tier of English football.
Edwards’ next stop was Wigan Athletic, League One rivals of Ipswich at the time of the move, and he would help the Latics to the league title in 2021-22 but promotion to the Championship didn’t work out for the Welshman on a personal level, restricted to only two appearances before a loan spell back in Scotland at Ross County. He will not be signing fresh terms at the DW Stadium and will instead be looking for a new challenge.
Writer’s View
Bristol Rovers are looking to rebuild their squad in preparation for a season in which the manager would surely be hoping to challenge towards the playoff places and following the release of Harry Anderson could well be in the market for a winger.
I find it a little confusing when players are mentioned in relation to not being linked to a club in a situation such as this and would make me think that there is at least a small chance the player could be on the wanted list. At 30 years old and with over 300 games behind him, Edwards would add more experience to the squad at Rovers and, should he recapture some of the form he showed in League One with Peterborough, fans at the Memorial Stadium will be hoping he could provide the ammunition for the likes of Aaron Collins, John Marquis and Ryan Loft.
