Goalkeeping coach and former Peterborough United player Mark Tyler has left the club after his contract was not renewed according to the Peterborough Telegraph .
Tyler had been the goalkeeping coach at London Road since summer 2016, a tenure which has seen five separate managerial changes. Originally brought in by Grant McCann in his first tenure as boss, Tyler had also previously worked with current manager Darren Ferguson but is now set to depart after seven years with The Posh.
The Englishman has plenty of history with Peterborough having played for the club from 1994 to 2009 and then returning on loan in 2016/17. As a result, Tyler ranks second on the list of all time appearances for The Posh making an astounding 494 appearances during his time at London Road. Coincidentally, when Tyler left the club in 2009 that was as a result of being bumped down the pecking order by Darren Ferguson, so there is potentially some unrest between the two. It is not known where Tyler will end up next season.
The rest of Peterborough’s coaching staff look to be staying intact after a season which saw them reach the play-offs on the final day of the season. Having been deemed by many to merely be making up the numbers against a strong Sheffield Wednesday side, The Posh won the first leg 4-0 seemingly almost booking their ticket to Wembley. A spectacular comeback by Wednesday in the second leg which saw them claw back the four goal deficit before winning on penalties put an end to Peterborough’s season. Having been relegated from the Championship the season prior this was a good first season back in the third tier for The Posh, who will be challenging for promotion again next season.
Who is Mark Tyler?
The keeper’s career spanned an incredible 22 years which saw him make 691 professional appearances. Tyler had been loaned to Billericay and Yeovil before cementing his position as first team keeper in 1997, a position he would hold until 2007. Departing in 2009, Tyler went on to play for Luton town from 2009 to 2016 before returning to Peterborough to finish his career and then being appointed as goalkeeping coach.

Having held the position for such a long period of time, it seems as if Darren Ferguson wants a new face in his coaching set up. His side will no doubt be challenging for promotion back into the second tier next season and will want to put the play-off hurt behind them. As for Tyler, it would be no surprise to see him get another job at a third or fourth tier side next season.
