Cheltenham Town Set To Re-Sign Player

Cheltenham Town has agreed to resign goalkeeper Max Harris for another season following a loan spell with Bath City, according to journalist Jon Palmer

The 23-year-old has endured five loan spells during his three years with Cheltenham and is set for another season with the Robins. Showing promise whilst out on loan with the National League South side, Harris may get an opportunity in the first team with the returning League One club.

Who Is Max Harris?

Starting his career with Oxford United on a scholarship program, Harris never played for the U’s and instead spent a month-long loan with sister club Oxford City.

Following his departure from the Yellows, the shot-stopping had a trail with Cheltenham and signed with his local side. Making only one appearance for the Robins in the EFL trophy three seasons ago, Harris finally got a consistent opportunity in between the posts when he was loaned to Bath City this past January.

Is He Ready For The EFL?

Spending the last five months with the Romans, Harris made 22 league appearances while keeping a respectable seven clean sheets.

With starting goalkeeper Luke Southwood set to finish his loan and return to Reading, backup keeper Shaun MacDonald is also expected to leave the club in the summer. That leaves Harris as the only goalkeeper currently signed with the Robins for the upcoming season, as he will most likely get an opportunity to earn a spot during pre-season.

Writer’s View

With a long transfer window still ahead, the fact the Robins decided to resign Harris over MacDonald shows they believe in his potential. The shot-stopper impressed fans whilst with Bath, however, a jump of three divisions to League One seems steep. With that in mind, if he impresses Harris should get time in pre-season to earn a place in Wade Elliot’s team.
