Exeter City forward Jevani Brown could return to the club despite his release earlier in the month, according to manager Gary Caldwell.
Having not played since January, the forward has been charged with assaulting two women, leading to his suspension from the club in the latter parts of the season. As the Grecians stated they would wait until the conclusion of Brown’s trials before he plays again, a move may not happen till later in the summer.
Who Is Jevani Brown?
Starting his career at Peterborough, the 28-year-old impressed during his time with the youth squad, however, was released without making an appearance for the senior team due to an off-the-field incident.
It led to a six-year hiatus playing in non-league football, before the striker signed for Cambridge United. Featuring 95 times for the U’s, Brown had 38 goal contributions over his two-season tender with the club.
Moving to fellow League Two side Colchester, the Jamaican struggled for game time before joining Exeter. Helping them reach promotion last season to League One, Brown had 19 goal contributions in 27 league appearances before his suspension from the club earlier this season.
Is He Available To Play?
Voted Player’s Player of the Season this year, the former Posh man was released due to his issues off the field. Pleading guilty to one of the two charges placed on him, Brown faces a trial in July to resolve the issue for the second charge.
What’s Been Said:
Speaking to BBC Radio Devon with quotes from BBC Sport about his player’s future, Caldwell spoke on how a return to St James Park could still be on the cards for Brown.
“It’s still something that might come back up, so we’ll see how that goes over the summer.
“As a footballer he’s a fantastic player and he’s contributed a lot to this club this season.
“But obviously his off-field problems have stopped him playing for the second half of the season, so we need to see how that develops.
“It’s slim, but the option is there should it come about.”
Writer’s View
Similar to what Caldwell said, Brown has shown to be a talented footballer on the pitch, however, has faced off-the-field issues over his career. Starting at Peterborough and now popping up again at Exeter, depending on the result of his trial later in the summer, it could have major implications on whether Brown plays at this football level again.
