Swindon Town Manager Blasts Striker

With Swindon Town’s disappointing season slowly coming to an end, manager Jody Morris has thrown another match to the fire, suggesting that attacker Tomi Adeloye isn’t showing 100% commitment towards the club, as reported by the Swindon Advertiser.

The Town are most recently coming off a 0-0 draw to Barrow, which has seen Morris’ men go on a discouraging run of nine games without a win.

During that time, the lack of success has started to take its toll on the club, with Morris most recently saying he doesn’t believe the 27-year-old is showing all the elements that contribute to being fully committed.

The out-of-favour striker hasn’t started a single game since the appointment of Morris in January, and has had to settle for the rare appearance off the bench late on.

Signing from Scottish Championship side Ayr United last Summer, Adeloye’s time with the Robins has been lacklustre with just 13 appearances amounting to one goal and a solo start for the club.

Taking part for Swindon in the Wiltshire Premier Shield cup, Adeloye has shown his goalscoring ability scoring three goals across the quarter and semi-finals. However, with the first team, the number nine has been left out of the last two match-day squads, even with the recent rest to Charlie Austin.

The Robins currently sit 12th in League Two, as a stalemate end to the season looks likely. With an awful run of form throughout the early months of the year taking them out of playoff contention, Swindon now has five games remaining before they can close the book to a season they won’t be looking back on.

When being asked about Adeloye and his exclusion from the squad, Morris said: “I think there are moments when you need to be 100% sure that everybody is [giving their all], and there have probably been elements of that when I’ve not been 100 per cent sure he [Adeloye] has.

“I want people that want to play for this club, I want them to do everything they can to perform and when asked to do certain things, players need to be prepared to do it.

“Regardless of anything contractual or anything like that, my main focus is to pick the most suited team that I think can get us a positive result.

“At the moment, there are players ahead of Tomi [Adeloye] in doing that.”

Writer’s View

It is quite clear Tomi has never been in Morris’ favour, but surprising to see him call him out like this. What Morris seems to be eluding to, is Adeloye not doing all the work it takes on the training pitch to earn a starting spot, however, I don’t understand how announcing this to the public this late in the season does anyone favours.

I am expecting to see a big turnaround in players during the Summer, and if Morris remains in charge you can likely expect Adeloye to be one of those players on the way out.
