Stevenage Manager Previews Weekend With “Easter Isn’t For Eggs It’s For Points”

As Stevenage get ready for a jammed packed Easter weekend, Boro boss Steve Evans will be focused on his games instead of any Easter egg hunts, after insisting “Easter isn’t for eggs it’s for points!

Easter weekend is full of football and Stevenage’s will be no different when they host Colchester on Good Friday, followed by a trip to the North East against Hartlepool on Monday

Boro is coming off the back of a controversial game against Northampton Town last Saturday, which saw them being charged by the FA for ‘mass confrontation’.

The 1-1 draw to their rivals ended with a brawl in the 90th minute after a late challenge caused both sides’ tempers to rise.

Evans mentioned that his side also picked up a few injuries to some big players in the process, however, kept the details to himself.

Stevenage has seen their form dip over the last few months, after a hot start to the season which saw them top of League Two at one point.

Despite their form in 2023 ranking them 11th in League Two, the boss thought Boro’s second-half performance was the best he’s seen since he’s been there.

The Hertfordshire side currently sits 3rd place in the league, two points behind their rivals, however, do have a game in hand on the teams around them.

With seven games left in the season, Stevenage holds their fate in their own hands, but will have tough competition pushing them from behind.

In an interview with the club before their Good Friday game, Evans said: “We’ve had a couple of dramas that’s carried on from Saturday, a couple of players that that won’t be fit for the weekend.

“(Northampton) is the best performance we’ve had since I arrived at the club, the second half was everything in the DNA about what we’re about and how we want to play. Northampton are a top side in League Two and we made them look like not a good side.

“I remember the words of the greatest manager in my lifetime, Alex Ferguson and he always described the Easter period as being for points, not eggs.

“Everything’s in our own hands, our own fate and we decide what’s happening, no one else.”

The ‘easter egg’ comment is a funny one to make from Evans, as he shows how serious he is taking the weekend.

He seems very happy with how Boro played in their last game after an up-and-down couple of months. It’s clear he now wants to take that momentum into an important Easter weekend, which could see a fair bit of movement at the top of League Two.

As for the injured players potentially missing the games, while the boss kept it to himself, captain Carl Piergianni is heavily rumoured to be one of the players missing, after suffering a bloodied nose during the brawl against the Cobblers.
