League One side Morecambe have announced the signing of former Everton striker Oumar Niasse on a deal until the end of the season according to the club’s official website.Β
The 32-year-old, who also spent time at the likes of Hull City and Cardiff City in the Premier League, has been without a club since leaving fellow League One side Burton Albion last summer, with the striker going on to score three goals in 12 appearances for the Brewers.Β
Niasse arrived at Goodison Park from Russian side Locomotiv Moscow in 2016 in the region of around Β£13.5 million and would go on to score nine goals in 42 appearances in all competitions during his four-year spell on Merseyside.
Spells at the likes of Hull City, Cardiff City and Huddersfield Town followed before joining up at Burton Albion in February 2022 following the expiration of his contract at Everton as he helped the club retain their status in League One for the following season before leaving the club in the summer where he has been without a club since.
The former Senegalese International, who has three goals in nine total appearances for his country, joins the League One side who sit 21st in the table and in the final relegation place, currently sitting behind Accrington Stanley by a point as Derek Adams’ side fight to remain in the third division for another season.

Speaking to Morecambe’s official website after putting pen to paper on a deal until the end of the season at the Mazuma Stadium, Niasse was full of praise for manager Derek Adams for bringing him into the club and has stated the main aim is to help the club stay in League One.
βIt is fantastic to be here and to join the club,β said Niasse. βWhen I spoke to the Manager and staff it was clear that there is a togetherness and unity here that I want to be part of.
βI see that challenge that is ahead of us, but it is one I relish and look forward to and I want to help this club achieve the target of staying in League One.β
After securing the services of the former Senegalese International, Morecambe boss Derek Adams was delighted to get the signing of Niasse over the line after confirming the club have been after a forward for some time.
Adams added: βI am delighted to bring Oumar to the Mazuma Stadium. He is a player with good experience and is at a good age. We have been trying to bring in a striker for a period of time and we wanted to make sure that player was going to be the right fit which we feel Oumar will be.
βI am sure our supporters will join me in giving Oumar a warm welcome to the football club and help him to feel settled in our culture right away.β

Morecambe’s signing of Oumar Niasse could be what they need if they want to be playing League One football again next season. As Derek Adams said, he is a good age and has plenty of experience at playing at the highest level.Β
This move for Niasse doesn’t actually come as that much of a shock to me either following his spell at Burton Albion last season where he helped the club stay in League One and that scenario seems to be the same at Morecambe as the club approaches 12 massive games in which Niasse will go on and hopefully play a big part in.Β
