Former Northampton Town Youngster and Youtube Winner Makes A Move To The National League

Former Northampton Town graduate and Hashtag United star Scott Pollock, has signed for National League side Yeovil Town from Boston United on undisclosed terms, as confirmed by the club.

The attacking midfielder started his football journey with the Cobblers’ academy, but made a name for himself by becoming the first winner of Hashtag United’s YouTube competition, also known as the ‘Hashtag Academy’.

At the time of winning, Hashtag United were merely a Sunday League side, however during the series, scouts would boast about Pollock’s talent with now agent Seb Owen stating, “Remember the name Scotty Pollock” being tagged with him, during the opening episode.

For winning the competition, Pollock signed a contract with Hashtag that allowed him to play in a charity match at Wembley in 2017.  He was named ‘Man of the Match’ for the game, in a fixture that included the likes of Steven Gerrard, Robbie Fowler, William Gallas and a few more ex-footballers.

By displaying his talent’s in-front of hundreds of thousands on Youtube, Pollock returned to his boyhood club in 2018, signing a two-year deal with Northampton, following a failed trial with Premier League side Crystal Palace.

Just two weeks later, he was selected as an unused substitute in a League Two fixture and made his professional debut a few months later during a 3-2 loss to Cambridge, where he came on in the 44th minute.

It wasn’t till the following season Pollock got his first goal for the Cobblers, when he scored the opening goal in a 2-0 win against Carlisle United.

The 21-year-old went on to make 27 appearances for his hometown team over a four-year spell, but due to a lack of game-time at Sixfields, Pollock signed for National League North side Boston United originally on loan, before making the move permanent when his deal expired.

The midfielder was in fine form this season with 16 goals in all competitions and ended the calendar year as the top goalscorer in the league.

Pollock has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Glovers and when speaking on the move said: “I’m buzzing – I’m glad I’ve got this over the line. There’s an exciting project going on here.

“I know the past history of Yeovil. It’s a big club with a good fanbase. I’m here to help and progress on through the leagues.”

I remember watching Pollock back in 2017 during Hashtag’s series and it’s great to start seeing him develop into a potential Football League player. In many ways Hashtag gets a bad rep for being different, but giving Pollock the platform to sign for a League Two team is just one of the good they have done.

For whatever reason things didn’t work out at Northampton, however, the season Pollock was having up to date with Boston was amazing. Taking a step up to a harder division won’t be easy for the youngster, nevertheless he should have the talent to succeed.
