Former Sheffield Wednesday Forward Makes Championship Move

Former Ipswich and Forest Green striker Conor Wickham has joined Championship side Cardiff City as a free agent, following a successful trial with the club.

Wickham spent the first half of this season in League One with Forest Green Rovers, making 20 appearances and scoring nine times in all competitions. The striker left the club after his short-term contract expired at the beginning of January.

Wickham has spent much of his career in the top two tiers of England, featuring for a number of clubs such as Ipswich Town, Leeds United, Sunderland, Crystal Palace and Sheffield Wednesday.

The 29-year-old will wear the number 31 for the Bluebirds, as he signs a contract until the end of this season to remain in the Welsh capital.

Wickham is a decent striker who has shown he still has an eye for goal with his record in League One during the first half of this season. However, one thing that could cause concern for Cardiff City fans is his injury record, the striker made the drop down to the third division to compete for minutes, after a career which has been ravaged by injuries.

One reason that saw the forwards time in Gloucestershire come to an abrupt end was his injury record, his last appearance was two months ago in a 1-0 victory over Cheltenham Town.

He should be a good option for the side going into the second half of this season, the club were known to be looking for free-agent options, given they only made one signing in last month’s transfer window, but Wickham is a player known to struggle for fitness as mentioned before, he has only played more than 20 games in a single season once in his career, so it could be unwise to extend his stay past the end of this season.

Ipswich fans, how do you feel about Conor Wickham’s new club?
