Bradford City’s Mark Hughes Faces Anxious Wait Over Injury

Bradford’s successful run continues following their 2-0 victory against Tranmere on Tuesday night, however they may be forced to miss new singing Matt Derbyshire through injury, according to Leon Wobschall from Yorkshire Post.

Derbyshire the former Premier League striker, arrived at the start of the January transfer window and didn’t have the home debut he was after. After scorer his maiden goal against 2nd placed Stevenage on the weekend, Derbyshire seemed to go down with a thigh problem midway through the first half.

The 36-year old has been round the block spending the better half of six years playing in the likes of Cyprus, Australia and India. The forward started his career at Blackburn, where he would go on to make 86 appearances and 20 goals for the club in his younger years.

Playing in some of the top competitions in the game such as the Premier League and  Champions League. Derbyshire now finds himself back in the Football League, though it looks like he is set to miss some time. After the game, gaffer Mark Hughes gave an update on what happened, though will have to nervousness wait on the outcome of the injury.

Hughes said: “We will have to wait and see. He’s a little bit sore at the moment.

“He’s just got a strain at the top of his thigh and hopefully it’s not too significant. It’s a real shame, I thought he was doing really well and looked really bright and hopefully we won’t lose him for too long. But we have got good players to come in and some weren’t even involved tonight.”

Writers View – Bradford are on a great run of form recently, as they try and cement themselves inside one of the playoffs spots, so its not great timing for an injury like this to happen.

On this run of form the Bantams have been solid defensively, as it’s an improvement in front of goal which they are hopping can fly them up the league table. Derbyshire was brought in for that reason, so it will be a loss to lose him this soon.

These kind of injuries can last anywhere to around three-four weeks, though without knowing the full extent it’s hard to nail it down to a exact timeline.

His striker partner Andy Cook is luckily in some good form to take the load off Derbyshire’s absence, though Hughes may have to look to switch the formation up to account for one striker or bring Abo Eisa back into the starting lineup.

So with just one lose in their last eight results, can Bradford continue that run without their new forward?
