Exclusive: League One Club Moves Ahead In The Race For Swindon Town Defender

League One side Burton Albion are stepping up their interest in Swindon Town defender Angus MacDonald just six months after joining The Robins sources have informed TheRealEFL.

MacDonald has been expected to leave the club as revealed by Football League World earlier in the window which is indeed correct as confirmed by TheRealEFL sources. Now it seems that Burton Albion has moved ahead in the race to capture his signature and is due to continue the pursuit as the deadline looms making a more formal enquiry. There is still reported interest from Bristol Rovers and Shrewsbury who are yet to rule themselves out or make a more solid approach for him.

The 30-year-old only joined the club in the Summer window, agreeing to a two-year contract as a free agent under Scott Lindsey. The defender has previous experience with Hull City, Reading, Rotherham United and Barnsley. He has 16 appearances so far this season playing 90 minutes in 15 of them.

It’s understood that the club would be willing to allow him to leave should the right offer come in. The defender was brought in with the view to being played as part of a back 3/5 but isn’t as suited to that as some other players to playing in a back 4. The player’s preference is currently not known but it’s felt if a move to League One should materialise he will be tempted to make the move, however, sources close to the player are currently being tight-lipped.

The continued negotiations of Jodi Morris are understood to be progressing well but ongoing at present with an announcement not expected to be imminent. The current hope is that it will still be completed by the end of the week but due to the complexity, this is far from guaranteed to be completed by then with it possibly spilling into next week.

Our View

The club is certainly having an overhaul after Scott Lindsey’s departure. Ben Gladwin’s move to Crawley Town has recently been confirmed and there could well be more with the Red Devils still holding an interest in Ellis Iandolo. I am expecting a busy end to the window at the County Ground with plenty in the works. I’m sure there will be plenty of chances to spot a new signing arriving from the car park should you be that way inclined.
