Sheffield Wednesday Dealt Transfer Setback

The League One promotion-chasing side are interested in a loan deal for Burnley defender Luke McNally according to The Star.

There was interest from other clubs in the Championship from both Hull City and Blackpool at the other end of the table.

And Alan Nixon has provided an update on his Patreon that Wednesday looks set to miss out on the 22-year-old with Burnley preferring the player to gain experience in the Championship.

Furthermore, Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider reports that the Championship leaders have agreed on a deal with Championship club Coventry City for the defender.

Our Verdict

With Burnley leading the league and looking all but set to return to the top flight, it makes sense that they would not want their player to drop to the division below them to gain experience. With Coventry at the opposite end of the table, the defender’s game time will not have too much impact on their prospects this season and could only be both clubs gain from this deal.

For Sheffield Wednesday, they are trying to fill the gap in their team left by the recall of Cardiff’s Mark McGuinness, who was a key figure for the team in the first half of this season. There is still a week left of the transfer window for them to do so, but they do need to act quickly to avoid the possibility of panic buying.

Sheffield Wednesday fans, who else could the club look at for the centre-back position?
