It has been a long drawn out saga for both clubs involving a lot of back and forth but Crawley Town has today confirmed the appointment of Scott Lindsey, five days after it was exclusively revealed by The Real EFL’s Ryan Whelan.
Lindsey joins from having spent the first half of the season with League Two outfit Swindon Town and is joined by his assistant manager from the club Jamie Day. Swindon fans have been lamenting for most of this season over their now former manager’s performances as they expected promotion. The club are still in a strong position to achieve that goal, sitting behind the play-off spots on goal difference, however, they have only picked up two wins in their last five.

Lindsey joins a Crawley team that is currently struggling at the wrong end of the table staring relegation from the Football League in the face, sitting just three points clear of Hartlepool at the time of writing, the club currently struggle on the pitch with only one win in their last five and three defeats. Swindon have supposedly opted to move on quickly from Lindsey’s time at the helm, having reportedly approached former QPR favourite Mark Bircham over the vacant position.
Speaking to us one Swindon fan said he was torn on Lindsey’s departure, that from a footballing point of view, he was lucky to be in a job after Boxing Day’s fixture with Walsall, a mixture of predictable game plans and the use of players out of position left a lot to question in his managerial abilities. However, they also spoke on a personal level stating.
“I’m really sad to see Scott go, he loves Swindon and has spent quite a few years around the place in different roles. I really wanted it to work out for him and the football club, but things weren’t meant to be.”
Despite the bad results, Scott did still have some fans behind him, albeit as a person rather than a manager and that was clear from the closing comments from this fan who ended by saying:
“I wish Scott nothing but the best at Crawley, and I can’t speak highly enough of him as a human.”

It has been a mixed reaction, however, from both fan bases as can be seen from some of the tweets below.
