Plymouth Argyle fans have expressed their surprise at an announcement yesterday, but not one from their own club.
Instead, some have been discussing leading scorer Luke Jephcott, who has not been called up to the Wales squad ahead of their matches with Belgium, Mexico and the Czech Republic. Jephcott, who has 16 League One goals this season, is being linked with a move away from Home Park, and an international call up would surely help add a zero on the end of his fee.
he hasn’t been added to Robert Page’s squad, but there is League One representation on there. Chris Gunter of Charlton Athletic is included, as are Matt Smith of Doncaster and Brennan Johnson of Lincoln, both on loan at their clubs. Josh Sheehan of League Two side Newport County is also in.
That has led to some surprise their boy wonder is not included, even though he hasn’t scored in nine matches now. The 21-year-old, who bagged seven in 14 matches last season, has already been capped by Wales at Under 19 and Under 21 level.
There is no doubt he will get a call-up, eventually, especially with the ageing Hal Robson Kanu still living off his one Euro 2016 goal. He has only scored three times this season, in the EFL Cup, and Euro 2020 is likely to be his last tournament if he even goes.
The pool of talent available to Wales is not the same as in England and when a young talent like Jephcott emerges, it is only a matter of time. This international break is not his time, but some Plymouth fans feel it should be, as you’ll see below.

The fact he hasn’t scored in 9 games hasn’t helped his chances. Is he really at that level to be considered for the full squad yet anyway? Im not so sure.

As good as jephcott is for us or was ,he isn't an international yet still has a long way to go.

As with many international squads names get picked over form most of the time anyway. No shocks here
