Sunderland fans have had their fair share of moans and groans of late. many of which we cover on here.
However, it is important to cover their positivity too, and last night’s thrashing of Aston Villa Under21s in the EFL Trophy has got supporters purring on social media.
Yes, it was against Aston Villa’s kids and maybe it did come in a competition that few care about, but that won’t stop the delight at seeing eight goals go in on Wearside. their pre-season has been subdued, and yet in one swift signing, the positive vibes have been rediscovered.
A 35-year-old who failed to score a home goal in his previous stint with the club might not be the most exciting arrival on paper, but in a few short minutes last night, Danny Graham managed what he failed to do at all between 2013 and 2016; score at the Stadium of Light. His goal, the club’s sixth of the night, finally gave an incoming striker something to build upon for the future.
Aiden O’Brien scored his first goal and Charlie Wyke got in on the act as well, but it is Danny Graham’s goal that seems to have caused a degree of hope amongst the Black Cat faithful. Maybe, after two years stuck in the third tier, they are looking forward and not backwards.
Maybe.
